Deutsch Connector User Guide
Required Tools - Crimp Tool, Wire Stripper, Needle Nose Pliers and a Deutsch DT-RT1 Removal Tool.
How to Assemble Deutsch Connectors
Step 1 - Crimp Pin or Socket
Crimp the pin or socket contact on the stripped conductor per crimp tool instructions.
Soldering is not recommended.
Step 2 - Insert wire with contact
Insert the wire with the contact into the rear of the connector.
Push until a click is felt and heard. A slight tug will confirm that it is properly locked in place. You can also look inside the connector to see that the contact shoulder is being properly retained by the small plasic finger of the housing.
Step 3 - Install Wedgelock
Receptacles - Once all contacts are in place, use needle nose pliers to insert the wedgelock, pressing firmly until it clicks into place. On DT Series 2-Way Receptacles and DTM Series 2-Way and 3-Way Receptacles insert the wedgelock with the flat side aligned with the flat inside the connector. On DT Series 3-Way Receptacles, the arrow should point toward the exterior locking mechanism.
Plugs - Once all contacts are in place, the wedgelock may be inserted by hand. Press until it clicks into place. On DT Series 3-Way Plugs, the arrow should point toward the exterior locking mechanism.
How to Dis-assemble Deutsch Connectors
Step 1 - Remove Wedgelock
To remove the wedgelock on DT Series 3-Way Receptacles and all DTM connectors use needle nose pliers to pull the wedgelock straight out.
On 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12-Way DT Series Receptacles use the hooked end of the Deutsch DT-RT1 Removal Tool to hook the wedgelock and pull straight out. On all DT Series Plugs use the screwdriver end of the Deutsch DT-RT1 Removal Tool inserted fully under wedgelock and pry out.
Step 2 - Remove wire and Contact
Look inside the connector, after the wedgelock has been removed, and the spring fingers holding the contacts in place can be seen.
Gently release the locking finger inside the connector by moving it away from the contact with the screwdriver end of the Deutsch DT-RT1 Removal Tool. The locking finger only needs to move a slight amount to release the contact.
While holding spring finger in the release position, pull the wire straight out from the rear of the connector.
If the seal should become displaced, simply press it back into place with your finger.
